Pea Hummus Recipe

Advertisements

I’m one of those who loves to have a snack in the fridge for when the little “hunger mouse” knocks at the door. And today I’m going to show you a snack that I love: pea hummus!

Hummus is one of the easiest recipes to make. It’s a kind of grain paste with tahini – sesame seed paste – very creamy and tasty. And in this case, I added some peas to give it a greenish color and a more intense flavor.

It’s traditional from the Middle East and was brought to Europe to further enrich our gastronomy. It’s not the real explanation, but that’s what I think because I really think it’s very good! And if you go to any restaurant, you can easily find hummus on the menu.

It is well known as a healthy snack or starter since it contains a lot of chickpeas, which in itself is a fiber- and protein-rich legume.

In addition, it is a great option for a vegetarian or plant-based diet.

There are many ways to eat hummus. It is a very versatile dish. I’ve been addicted to spreading this pea hummus on my morning toast, but there are many other ways to consume this chickpea past from heaven!

Yes, good! I say this because it is quite nutritious and satiating. I don’t advocate diets, but for some reason, hummus is so widely used by those who do them…

And this pea hummus recipe I bring you today is great to serve to our friends when we make dinner parties at home. Whoever says to friends, says to the family, or at a special dinner party.

You can serve it as a side dish, be it meat or fish. Or you can use it as a starter, served with some crackers – the chia crackers from Origens Bio are wonderful to eat with this peas hummus.

Humus de ervilhas e grão Origens Bio

Let’s check the step-by-step?

PEAS HUMMUS RECIPE:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 bottle of peachicks from Origens Bio
  • 1 package canned peas or 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 tablespoon of tahini
  • 2 cloves of garlic or 2 to 3 teaspoons of garlic paste
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 4 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Salt
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika powder
  • Coriander or fresh chives to taste (I used chives)
  • Water (optional)
  • Chia Crackers Origens Bio

PREPARATION METHOD:

  1. Start by placing the chickpeas in a net and washing them with water.
  2. Place the chickpeas in a blender or kitchen robot and set aside.
  3. Do the same with the peas. Put them in the net, wash them well with water, and add them to the chickpeas.
  4. Add the tahini and garlic and grind for about 3 or 4 seconds at maximum speed.
  5. Add the lemon and olive oil and season with the spices mentioned above.
  6. Add the coriander or chives and blend again at maximum speed for about 1 min.
  7. If the consistency is too thick, add water and blend again until you have a smooth, creamy paste.
  8. Garnish with a drizzle of olive oil on top and some chia seeds or fresh coriander or chives.
  9. Serve with chia crackers.

Suggestion: Make your own combinations. Replace the peas with roasted peppers, boiled beets, or spinach.
Add a little ginger if you like.
If you want to make a different paste, use beans instead of chickpeas. It is also wonderful!
